Adoption Success Story

Adoption PUPdate:

Dudley was adopted as a puppy from The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach in the summer of 2012. He has been a joy to myself and my family ever since. He's the smartest dog I've ever owned! He is not only a faithful companion to me, but now is my dad's best friend as well. If you're on the fence about adopting a shelter pet, take the leap! They are the best dogs EVER!

Sponsor a Shelter Pet!

Did you know that you could
Sponsor a Shelter Pet?
Sponsoring an animal is one of the greatest ways you can give to The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. Not only are you donating to our mission, you're also being a sponsor to an animal who needs your help. With the support of our dedicated Sponsors, we're able to care for many special needs pets, including dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and pregnant mothers.

Please help us to care for these pets by becoming a Sponsor, so we can continue to give them all the medical care and attention they need until we can find them loving homes.

Sponsoring a shelter pet is also a great opportunity for those animal loving folks who can’t adopt another cat or dog.

to host the third annual "Run for the Shelter" 5K and 1 mile Dog Walk on
Saturday, April 2, 2016
at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.

In addition, we will be combining this event with one of our other annual fundraisers,
the 16th Annual Doggie Bone Hunt.

This is a wonderful event for walkers, runners, families and animal lovers to get out and exercise and help fund critical programs and services for homeless and abused animals in our community.

Young Children - Big Hearts

The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is very fortunate to have over 300 volunteers who serve to further our mission of saving the lives of homeless animals in our community. Our volunteers are ordinary people who do extraordinary work!

Recently, we met a grandmother, Cathryn Speckman, or Yia-Yia, as her granddaughters call her. She introduced us to her two granddaughters, Ellory (6 years old) and Avery (5 years old). Ms. Speckman has been bringing the girls to our shelter 2-3 times per week for over 2 months now to visit with the animals. The girls pass out treats to all the animals and pet them, giving them much needed love and attention. Ellory and Avery have really grown to love all the dogs and cats and know all of their names! They spend extra time with the new animals that are shy and afraid and have seen firsthand how their love and attention helps the animals become more comfortable and relaxed while here at the shelter. They love going into the rooms where the cats are and taking one at a time out of their cages so they can run around and play.

At first, the girls would get upset when one or more of the shelter animals had been adopted. “Yia-Yia” explained to them that the animals were now in loving and caring homes where they are now being cared for and loved like every animal deserves. Now, they get so excited when they go in and see that one of the animals has been adopted! They understand that a loving family has taken them home and is giving them a "forever" home!
One of their favorite animals at the shelter is a 5 year old Tabby cat that the shelter staff has named
Millie. Mille has a heart murmur and the shelter staff has been trying to raise money so that Millie can have an ultrasound on her heart so that the doctors can get Millie’s murmur regulated.   Ellory and Avery, with the guidance of their Yia-Yia, decided to raise the money needed for Millie’s medical expenses so that she can get the treatment she needs and the forever home that she deserves.

So, last Saturday the trio set up a lemonade stand and raised $328 and now Mille is receiving the care she needs!

Through bringing Ellory and Avery to the animal shelter and exposing the girls to the plight of our homeless animals, Cathryn Speckman has taught her granddaughters the values of compassion, respect and empathy; qualities that ensure a more humane world for both our citizens and animals! We are all very proud of them and their growing affection and love of animals.
