Adoption Success Story

Adoption Success Story:
With Christmas over,I thought now would be a good time to write my story about Callie!
Callie is the most recent addition to the Stone household, but the story doesn't start there!
I lost my Sandy on July 1,2016 at the age of 141/2. Sandy was also adopted from HSNMB. He was the second of my senior furry babies that passed away in 2016.
That left myself and Lilly (aka) Freckles, who I adopted in 2013 from HSNMB.
At this point, with my heart in little pieces,I made the decision not to adopt again, but to foster a small dog and help to find a loving home for he or she!
I went through the foster class with Tina and now all I had to do was wait for the right fit.
It didn't take long,as I was at the shelter when they brought out this little bundle of pure energy! She was a little spitfire. I said no thank you,she will never get along with Lilly, who is very mellow and timid. I thought she would have Lilly hiding in the closet for sure!
That face! I couldn't resist,I decided to see if this would work out but I really didn't think it would. So I brought Lilly to the shelter and we took a walk with Callie. They did fine,Lilly not really paying too much attention to her.
I brought Lilly home and then brought Callie home and let them both in the back yard at first.
In no time at all,the two ran in the house together and I was amazed.
Callie was my first foster and my first foster failure. She also may be the shortest foster in history, less than 24 hours!
Now that she has been with us several months,I can't imagine life without her! She has helped me laugh and smile again, even though sometimes it is through tears, but there are definitely less of them as time goes by! She is still a bundle of energy and a little nutty, but Lilly loves her and they play together all the time! Lilly has even lost some of her pudginess! Thank you all at the nmbhs for taking such good care of Callie for me! You all are the best!

Adoption Success Story

This week marks a very special date for us. You see, what someone else decided to give up provided us one of the most amazing Christmas gifts we could have ever wished for. On Dec. 15, 2015, someone surrendered a litter of beautiful puppies to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society. And that litter produced for us the greatest Christmas gift ever-Nevo! An unexpected, spur-of-the-moment, step #1 trip to the NMB Humane Society changed our lives furever. On Dec. 20, 2015, my husband and I took what we thought was the first step toward adopting a dog into our family. Having always had cats, the thought of adopting a dog was a new experience for us. We truly took that Saturday trip to ‘just look’ and start the process. Little did we know there was a puppy there waiting for us to come and take him home. Lucky (we later changed his name to Nevo) captured our hearts the moment we saw him. I was hesitant to ask to see him out of his kennel because I knew we would not want to leave him behind once we got him out. And that was definitely what happened. Shy, hesitant and nervous at first, and then less than 10 minutes later he was sitting with his head between my husband’s legs as Michael sat in a chair. We wanted to take him home that day but we couldn’t. He needed a trip to the vet so we had to wait a couple of days until we could take him home. But that worked out even better because we actually picked him up on Christmas Eve! We have not stopped smiling and loving on him from that moment! He has been a wonderful addition to our family and has become fast friends with his brother & sister kitty siblings. The joy and amount of love Nevo (Lucky) has brought into our family is almost indescribable. Who knew what we were missing for so many years without a dog? But God knew and He saved Nevo for us for the perfect timing! Although interested in them, Nevo was initially shy and skittish around other dogs and especially people. He has come a long way from that now. He loves playing with other dogs and making new friends at Camp Bow Wow and at the dog park. These experiences, plus many walks and trips to the beach have helped him tremendously in getting comfortable with other people as well. He loves to run and play and goof off. His favorite game is ‘keep away’ and he also loves hide-and-seek and tag as well. As high energy as he is, he is just as quick to relax at home, snuggle and take lots of naps. We know everyone thinks this about their own dogs but he is truly the most amazing, incredible dog and fur baby we could ever wish for! Thank you NMB Humane Society for what you do not only for these wonderful fur babies, but also for us humans as well. You rescue us all with your love and dedication to others! We hope others will realize the best possible Christmas gift imaginable and that you will chose to give a life to a baby who is waiting for you at a shelter. Many Blessings to you all and Merry Christmas!
